Sean Porter (SCS Engineers)

Stormwater Sample Collection Methods, Flow-Weighted Composites, and Pollutograph Sampling

$30 for members, $35 for non-members, add $5 if reservation is not received by 5pm the Friday before. Online registration will end at noon on the Monday before the event.

Many monitoring programs require the estimation of pollutant levels in discharges to receiving waters. Numerous sampling approaches are selected to complement the study design, satisfy financial constraints, and ensure data quality requirements. The presentation will compare and contrast two sample collection methods: flow weighted composite sampling and pollutograph sampling, and will focus on stormwater program design and sample collection methodology.

Speaker Information:

Sean Porter specializes in water resource services with a background in stormwater, wastewater, urban and natural landscape watershed studies, and groundwater. He is an expert in NPDES permit program requirements, evaluation of industrial and commercial facility stormwater pollution prevention plans (SWPPPs), total maximum daily load (TMDL) allocations and monitoring, and publicly funded, research-driven watershed studies. His 10 years’ experience includes designing and implementing large-scale water quality and sediment monitoring programs for regional stormwater monitoring programs for state, municipal, transportation, and federal agencies, and for low-impact development. These programs have included Best Management Practice (BMP) effectiveness assessment; design, implementation, and monitoring of treatment trains; stormwater treatment technologies; use of innovative flow monitoring with primary and secondary flow devices and modern automated sampling equipment.
