Dealing with Plastics in our Ocean Waters

Cost:

$30 for members, $35 for non-members, add $5 if reservation is not received by 5pm the Friday before. Online registration will end at noon on the Monday before the event. Walk-ins with no reservation will be charged an extra $10 and be asked to wait until those with reservations are seated.

Please note that confirmed reservations will be invoiced regardless of attendance.

Abstract:

Clear Blue Sea is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) dedicated to cleansing the oceans of plastic pollution who's mission is to help ensure the survival of the marine ecosystem and the health of the maritime economy by removing macro and microplastic debris from our oceans and returning the marine environment back to clear blue seas.

Speaker Information:

Jessica Gottdank is the Chief Engineer at Clear Blue Sea, serving as a volunteer given her passion for working on issues significant for the environment. She is an Olin College of Engineering graduate in both Mechanical Engineering and Music. Jessica was a Design Engineer for Boeing where she worked on the C-17 aircraft. She decided her interests and capabilities would be put to better use in the Cleantech sector where she could leverage her engineering modelling and prototyping skills to implement innovations directly benefiting the environment. Jessica serves as President of the Board for Clear Blue Sea for leading our technology development strategies and corporate governance.

Susan Baer is the Executive Director of Clear Blue Sea, as well as one of its founders. Susan has an economics degree from UCSC and an MBA from Yale University. In the early part of her career she worked at Booz Allen and then SAIC for 20 years as VP of Program Management. She managed the NASA Division while performing Program Manager roles at JSC for the concept phase of the International Space Station, modernization of the Mission Control Center, and improved Safety, Reliability and QA Information Architecture following the Challenger disaster. In the last 10 years, Susan has been mentoring Cleantech startups in San Diego and via the Los Angeles Cleantech Incubator. She has mentored and trained small businesses and startups through numerous SBA-funded programs implemented through SDSU, SBDC, and SWC. While leading the planning and implementation of Clear Blue Sea as a startup nonprofit, Susan also teaches Innovation and Creativity at SDSU for the Fowler College of Business.

  • WALDORF SALAD - (vegetarian) arugula, tossed in honey mustard vinaigrette, topped with sun dried cherries, gorgonzola cheese, candied walnuts, celery, apple chips, and grapes 
  • AVOCADO CHICKEN SANDWICH - grilled chicken topped with avocado, swiss cheese, shredded lettuce, tomato and ranch dressing. served with french fries.
  • BREWER’S CLUB SANDWICH - roasted turkey, ham, bacon, cheddar & swiss cheeses, tomato and lettuce with chipotle mayo. served with french fries.

Directions from the South: Take I-5 or I-805 N to La Jolla Village Dr. Turn left off the freeway onto La Jolla Village Dr. Turn left on Villa La Jolla Dr. Turn right into Rock Bottom parking lot.
