Turning a scarce resource into a binational nuisance: Tijuana’s water infrastructure

Cost:

$30 for members, $35 for non-members, add $5 if reservation is not received by 5pm the Friday before. Online registration will end at noon on the Monday before the event. Walk-ins with no reservation will be charged an extra $10 and be asked to wait until those with reservations are seated.

Please note that confirmed reservations will be invoiced regardless of attendance.

Abstract:

Doug will provide a background of Tijuana’s water and wastewater infrastructure. He will describe EPA’s ongoing effort to reduce transboundary pollution as well as the federal response to the large sewage spill that occurred in January of 2017.

Speaker Information:

Doug spent the last 15 years developing wastewater, drinking water, and stormwater projects in Mexico and U.S. as a project manager for EPA. He is also EPA's lead on ocean desalination issues. Before joining the border team, Doug wrote water discharge permits for municipal wastewater treatment plants, desalination plants, coal and copper mines, tuna canneries, paper-mills, refineries, and power plants.

Doug holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University. He enjoys open-water swimming, travel and writing.

Directions from the South: Take I-5 or I-805 N to La Jolla Village Dr. Turn left off the freeway onto La Jolla Village Dr. Turn left on Villa La Jolla Dr. Turn right into Rock Bottom parking lot.
