Environmental Program Update
 


Abstract:

The Navy and Marine Corps have a large presence throughout the San Diego metro area and throughout the southwestern United States.  As with any large industrial operation the Navy has numerous environmental compliance, planning, natural and cultural resource, and clean up (restoration) challenges in supporting the Department of Defense mission.  The presentation will provide an overview of the Navy's environmental program within the southwest region, discuss how this program supports the various commands, and identify the most challenging issues facing the Navy today in implementing its various environmental programs.

Cost:

$30 for members, $35 for non-members, add $5 if reservation is not received by 5pm the Friday before. Online registration will end at noon on the Monday before the event. Walk-ins with no reservation will be charged an extra $10 and be asked to wait until those with reservations are seated.

Please note that confirmed reservations will be invoiced regardless of attendance.


Speaker Information:

Derral Van Winkle, P.G. is the Environmental Restoration Product Line Coordinator for NAVFAC Southwest. Mr. Van Winkle is a Professional Geologist with 30 years of experience conducting environmental restoration work with all DoD services, most recently with the Restoration Program for NAVFAC Southwest.  Prior to working for NAVFAC Southwest, Derral worked for two different consulting companies.  He has successfully worked directly for and closely with federal and state regulatory agencies across the United States, including USEPA Region 9, and the various state regulatory agencies within the Southwest AOR.  His roles have varied from a project chemist analyzing samples in a laboratory to field geologist/geophysicist, project manager, and supervisor of a multi-disciplinary team that addressed compliance, storm water, and restoration investigation and cleanup projects.

Directions from the South: Take I-5 or I-805 N to La Jolla Village Dr. Turn left off the freeway onto La Jolla Village Dr. Turn left on Villa La Jolla Dr. Turn right into Rock Bottom parking lot.
