Mr. Xiong will be discussing the use of stabilized nano-scale zero-valent iron to enhance site remediation.
Dr. Zhong (John) Xiong is a project engineer with AMEC Geomatrix in the Newport Beach, California office. He is a registered professional engineer in California. His work and research interests involve the development and application of innovative processes for groundwater and soil remediation, including nano-scale materials. He is currently leading a project as the principal investigator demonstrating the effectiveness of using non-scale zero-valent iron particles for degrading chlorinated solvents in contaminated groundwater and soil. The project is funded by the Air Force Center of Engineering and the Environment. Other areas of interest include innovative site characterization processes, enhanced bioremediation, soil vapor extraction, in situ chemical oxidation, ion exchange for water treatment, etc. Dr. Xiong received his BS and MS degrees both in Environmental Engineering from Chongqing University in China in 2000 and 2003, respectively, and his Ph.D. degree in Civil Engineering from Auburn University in 2007.
